The bold promise

Summer. The bold promise of the good life; the climax of the whole year, long-awaited with feverish anticipation through months of mundanity and greeted with determined exhilaration as spring finally fades.

Once more the cloudy curtains open for the summer sun that not only warms the believers and elevates their spirits but at the same time relentlessly puts them in the glaring spotlight of life, pressuring them to make the most of the time they have to shine in its light. And, drunken with opportunity, they try to fulfill the bold promise of the good life that they owe to themselves.

But as the trees lose their leaves in exhaustion, the pride that often comes before a fall makes way for the sobering realization that the good life was just out of reach or may have just slipped through their fingers. But they will try again, they promise themselves.
